Post RAW Photo Support and More
Dear Orb,

I just signed up today, and have to say that I am blown away with your service. I have a Pocket PC phone, and I think you just changed my life, forever. Amazing.

That said, here are a few things I would love to see:

I am a filmmaker and photographer and would love to see RAW / NEF photo file support. I know this is above and beyond the normal needs of the everyday user, but I figured I'd ask anyway.

Also, being a filmmaker, I love the Sony trailers. They are the only trailers that I have found on the net which stream on my phone without skipping. I'm sure you set up some deal with Sony to hook that up, but if you could do that for all the trailers out there... like quicktime.com does... now that would be amazing.

And, maybe you could release a Pocket PC today screen plugin / software based navigation system that's faster and makes it so I don't have to log in all the time...

Oh, and the portal is wicked slow, even on my home PC. You guys gotta fix that one.

That said, you have changed my life.
Thanks again for a great product.

We'll see if it's easy to do.

The power of Orb is to restream at the proper rate for each device :-)

Our approach is to never have to install anything on the device itself. If you use "remember me" the login process should be pretty quick. We are in the middle of improving the home page so that users can display only what they want.

What is slow in particular? What is your connection speed?

I have DSL at home and EVDO on my verizon phone. Both are operating at their full speeds. At home, sections of the page tend to lag, especailly when you get into the setup section. My guess is that it is due to the subframing that you are using in combination with IE. On my phone, however, I have pocket IE, and the lag appears to be presented by the icon images, as well as the tab images. Again, perhaps it is IE.

Also, in Pocket IE, the "remember me" option does not appear at all, no matter what page layout mode I am in.

And maybe you could set it up so there was a text link to "play", in addition to / instead of the image. That way it would appear quicker. Oh, and the music play button next to each track in the music subfolders is awesome. Perhaps you could add that for video as well?

Again, these are minor problems. Overall your product RULZ.

You should see the "Remember me" check box in the login page, right above the Sign In button.

There is an option to disable thumbnails and icons for each type of device (phone, pda, PC) That speeds things up on the phone. Go to Setup > General Settings on your PC.

I just realized that this check box had disappeared recently in the PDA login page... this will be fixed this week![/quote]

blakeharjes,

I don't have any news regarding the RAW / NEF support (is there a standard by the way?) but you may be interested by the fact that now Orb let's you publish your photos on the web, i.e. you can get an address pointing directly to each individual photos on your PC. Check out the blue sphere button (Photo Sharing), there is a link at the top of the form to use this new Web Publishing mode instead.

I know it's old, but I'm compelled to bump this topic and see if there's any progress on the raw file format

Thanks!

Post CRW support too!
I'd love RAW support as well, I'm a Canon user and so while you're looking into supporting RAW, please add .CRW to the list!

Orb is amazing. So many of my wished were made true the moment I installed this software. :D

I should have mentioned this in my last post. It may be simpler to support the streaming of the embedded jpg's from the CRW/NEF files. That would be fantastic, and perhaps easier to do. Personally I wouldn't care for processing a raw file just to be displayed remotely, a quick view via the embedded jpg is fine. I can always download the RAW file and convert it remotely if necessary.

Thanks

Well I found a workaround.

Download the Microsoft Raw viewer powertoy and you will be able to view raw files in orb. I have it on both my ORB server and viewing pc, but am unsure if it needs to be on both.

Did I mention it's free and lets you view raw thumbnails in windows?!?

I followed your instructions but I am still unable to get the RAW images visible in Orb. Could you please give a little more detailjed description how did you get them working. Which ORB version you are using? Which Windows versions you are using? Did you change some Orb settings?

Did you get RAW images be visible in Orb "Photos" application or only in the "File browser"?

It would be really useful to find out the solution to this problem!

Dear laurent,

Could the Orb team investigate the Microsoft Powertool for RAW support and give the instructions how to get RAW support into ORB? I think there are many people who would be very interested in to get the solution.

Ok, just started using Orb, hence the late reply to this set of posts, but I would LOVE to be able to view my RAW(NEF) files via Orb without having to convert them all to JPGs....

I have the Microsoft RAW viewer installed and it works fine on the XP machine, but i can't see the NEF files remotely, can anybody help?

Actually, i can see that there is a NEF file via the File Browser section but it won't display remotely. I can't see the NEF files at all via the Photo section of Orb.

Cheers

NEF Files:

well, i've managed to get Orb to recognise the Nef files in the Photo Channel by adding the extesion .NEF, however, when i display them i get a really small unviewable picture in the middle of my screen!

Has anybody managed to get Nef RAW files to stream ok??
