This applies to me too.

I live in Canada and don't much care about your agreement with Apple and AT&T; what I care about is the agreement between you and I.

I paid you for this app so that I could live stream live tv to my i phone.

You indicated this was a 'bug fix' release; you did not disclose that you were disabling (and not too gracefully I might add) the primary function of the product.

What are your plans to correct this situation?

All of you are complete morons. You should have all known damn well that AT&T didn't allow this. Orb, being a US based company puts priority on customers on the biggest carrier here. Frankly, im surprised it lasted this long.

There are two very simple fixes.

Jailbreak and either:

A. Find an older copy of ORB
B. Buy 3G Unrestrictor, which tricks Orb into thinking it's on Wi-fi.

These guys even mentioned Live TV would be removed but you illiterate buffoons apparently can't read worth a damn.

Quote:
After Apple confirmed they pulled out the App because of the AT&T rule, we are going to submit over the weekend an update that will not play Live TV over 3G anymore. It will continue to play Videos and Recorded TV though.

Versions 2.0.12.7 and under will continue to work as before.

They promised they'd review and publish it in the App Store in a record time...

See how easy it is? God, you people are stupid.

"Goldstmarc" your advice to Jailbreak is a good one, but commercially speaking you are not getting the whole picture.
1- Remember we paid USD 9.99 for a program which has features A,B and C. Then suddenly out of the blue the seller (ORB) decides to amputate the program to A and B only. Let's say you bought a Sony color TV, how would you react if Sony suddenly decided that from now on you would be watching your favorite shows in black & white? Would you accept it no matter the reason? I think not.
2- Why on earth should non-US residents be concerned by a US only trade agreement??? There is a separate iTunes store for almost every main country, and country specialised apps are very common (for very similar trade agreements) therefore ORB should LOGICALLY make 2 separate versions, one for the US without streaming over 3G, and a regular version for non-US residents.

If this is possible for them....Why can't Orb do it??????

In October, Elgato’s original EyeTV for iPhone allowed streaming video over a 3G network connection via a backdoor, which broke the iPhone OS SDK rules and Apple quickly yanked EyeTV from the App Store. Another version of EyeTV removed the backdoor, and the world assumed that 3G network streaming in EyeTV was gone forever.
However, yesterday Elgato proved the assumption premature by releasing EyeTV 3.3 for Mac OS X and a new Elgato Web site.
To use the new video-streaming features of EyeTV, you must update the software to version 3.3. Mobile Safari on your iPhone handles the rest by launching this Web site: https://live3g.eyetv.com . Launching the Web site results in the execution of a new iPhone
Web app called Live3G that lets you watch live television on an iPhone anywhere via a 3G connection.

Further to my post above.

I tried to install an older version of ORB from my iPhone backup but it generated the same error as the newer one.

Next, when I tried to apply the fix posted at the top of this thread this is what happened:

First, the most current version of ORB tailored for Canada is a lower version than 2.54.0018
(ORB says "Make sure that you have installed the latest version of Orb 2.54.0018 (or later version) on your PC")
and as such didn't work at all.

So I downloaded the most current version for the US, and although it installed it would not accept my postal code (it wants a zip code).
As a result it could not locate my cable provider and could not set up the channels to match it.

Next I ran the auto set up wizard, but it did not identify all my channels - it stopped at 55; also it didn't associate the tv station names with any of the channels as was the case in the version I had been running (likely due the issue above).

So I'm left with:
a) fewer channels
b) no names on the channels that I do have
c) a silly work around to view shows that I must first record (using up harddisk space that was not needed before and effectively blocking channel surfing).

I'd appreciate it if someone at ORB would make things right.

Rob

Here is the reply I got from the APPLE iTunes apps support:

I'm sorry to hear of the frustration you have recent had with this App "OrbLive, due to updating and now some features of this App have been removed. I can definitely see your concern and I will do my best to provide you with the best information and steps to take in such a situation. Unfortunately, applications on the iTunes Store are provided by outside developers. As such it is the developers choice and decision on what features are added as well as removed as they update their application. I realize the new version of the application "OrbLive" does not meet your standards and apologize for this. Your best option would be to contact the developer Orb Networks to inquire about changes: Please visit: http://support.orb.com As the purchase was made and has been used satisfactorily since 03/20/2009 until a recent update, I am unable to issue a refund for the charge.

In clear they don't give a damn and reject the responsibility to ORB...

When I first purhased OrbLive it was working great. With new versions I lost tv listing and now ability to stream tv ove 3G. Since I upgraded through iTunes I was in trouble.....
I got a previous version and thanks to a jailbreak I was able to downgrade and get my streaming back.... Yay jailbreak yet again!!!!

Worked for me and I will not update until LIVE streaming, the whole point of this app, is again back.

THANKS THANKS THANKS

I'm perfectly fine with the update... you guys need to realize that it is still LIVE they just need to buffer or "Record" a few seconds before it streams to comply with ATT/Apple "Live" streaming restrictions.

guys its still "LIVE" but with a nice little workaround...

Can someone please send me the recycle bin older version of ORB so I can downgrade. You folks dont seem to realize that lots of us no longer use iTunes for anything. You can update apps over the 3G network. If you do this there is NO recycle bin version to revert to!

My email addy is

dreamweavercnj@yahoo.com

Thanks folks!!!

Pete

Could someone send me the 2.0.12.7 version too? I do not have this in my recycle bin.

apayne2@cox.net
Thanks so much and yes, I was affected and just wasted 4 hours trying to figure out why... I guess I finally put the right criteria in Google and found this thread...

This is absolute B.S. $9.99 for the app, $135 for the tuner card, I'd say I took a pretty good screwing! I hope Orb/AT&T gets their shit together pretty quick, before they both lose their entire customer base. No TV over 3G? It's the ONLY reason I bought the app. Orb will be lucky to save any customers that are left after this shit. I want my money back!

They just keep giving people more reasons to Jailbrake.

Exactly! That's what I have done and probably 50% of other ORB LIVE users too.

Oh.. god.
You guys. JUST BETRAYED your customer base.
(Just like Apple does every 5 years or so..)

This was the ONLY reason why I have orb.

When I travel to and from work, I listen to CNN.
Well, you just took that away... So why in the hell would I support you anymore?

I guess it was the ATT "bug" fix that ORB fixed and not actually ORG CUSTOMER bug fix issue.
ORB you should have argued that ATT provides UNLIMITED data plan and it's their problem not yours. (ATT would just enforce the data plan changes on new contracts)...
So you capitulated.. so what good is your service now?

Your app for the phone is very clumsy and difficult to use, especially for as many point releases of the softare...
No landscape support
No live TV Support
TV functionality is very manual and cludgy
No Music list browsing except for the basic.
No Movie support (visa streaming)
Pictures, you can't zoom

All these short comings I was able to deal with because I drive 1 hour each way to get to and from work. Now thatoption is gone.

Idiots!
