We are pleased to announce that we are now ready with the second version of "Orb for Mac OS - Community Technology Preview", or “Orb for Mac CTP2”

Encouraged by the overwhelming response we have had from our Users for OrbLive beta testing, we decided to make available the Mac build to those of you who might be interested in participating in the initial rounds of End Users testing/preview. Mind you, we aren't yet there with all core features of Orb (see below for limitations) and hence the tag "CTP" instead of "Beta".

If you are interested in being part of our extended QA team, then please take a moment to read through the system requirements and current limitations before downloading the build.

What’s New in CTP2:

Fixed most frequent crashes
Fixed issues during installation
More Internet Channels available than in CTP1
Additional bug fixes

Special Installation Note for existing testers/reviewers:

If you already have the previous version of Orb for Mac CTP (“CPT1”) installed, we recommend that you uninstall it before installing CTP2.

To completely uninstall Orb for Mac CTP, first quit Orb. Then open a Terminal window and execute the following script: /Applications/Orb.app/Contents/Resources/uninstallOrb.sh

System requirements

Mac OS X Leopard 10.5 and above running on Intel.

Limitation of the current build (OrbMac 2.50.0045, a.k.a. CTP2).

No Live TV/ Webcam Streaming.
Limited support on Mobile devices - Works on Smart Phones and PDAs using TCPMP (.pls format), but doesn't work yet on Windows Media Player & on Real Player (most Nokia devices).
Limited availability of iTV/ iRadio Channels.
No UPnP support/ access via Game console/ DMA devices.

Note : Supports streaming to iPhone/iPod Touch via OrbLive.

Our primary intention of this exercise is to get your suggestions/feedbacks, and then work on them before prime- time release. To enable us to quickly review your suggestions/feedbacks, we request you to follow the format prescribed below.

Your bug / feedback report should mandatorily include the following.

Orb Mac version.
Your Mac OS & System configuration.
Clear cut steps to reproduce the issue that's being reported.

Note : When requested, please zip up your logs and mail them to us. You can find Orb logs in Library/Logs/Orb Networks.

For the record, you need to type "/Applications/Orb.app/Contents/Resources/uninstallOrb.sh " into the terminal to do the un-install. There was a typo in the original instructions.

Same problems. Fresh install, created new account and says the account is already running on the computer.

When I manage to get past that issue, it hangs at indexing content as before. Gets to 9 files and sits there forever.

I have everything installed and I can see my pictures from my phone but when I try and play any music it goes to the media player and says 'content not available. Server is blocked or unresponsive.' I have the second release too! This is from a BB Storm w/ Verizon fyi.

I realize this is a very early release, but after something like 30 uninstall / reinstalls on my Mac Mini running Leopard, no matter what i do, this thing just won't install. Very disappointed. Expected a lot of bugs, but at least AFTER I managed to get it working!!!!

I'm just getting started with Orb. I'd like to access TiVo content downloaded to my Mac via my iPhone. Is this possible w/ this new beta release?

I launched the app and it completed installation.

However, when I go to the Orb site, it doesn't see any of my content and just tells me an unexpected error occurs. It even does that when I try to verify/change where the Orb site is pointing to to get my content.

WHen I try to use the app on the iPhone it tells me my Orb PC is not reachable.

Could you try this new build here after a complete uninstall, and let me know if it works for you? And if it doesn't, please compress your logs that are in /Library/Logs/OrbNetworks and send them to mac.ctp@orb.com referring this post.

I cannot get Orb to do ANYTHING. Very annoying. It's been like this for days.

New build actually installed first time without any errors and I am now watching a TV show on my iphone (local network wifi).

I got mine working on my 3rd install.

It may have been the fact that I allowed it to keep the default directories for my media.

I have them removed now but they still are showing media from them. I guess that's not a huge deal but I wish I could tell it to only pull media from the directories I want it to.

Can't get a .tivo file to play, though. But I'm going to try another.

So that there isnt an Orb app sitting in my dock, what if Orb was in the finder bar on the top.

I keep getting a ton of Orb apps to open in my dock.
I get a lot of messages saying orb unexpectedly needed to quit from the orb app (not from the Mac OS), after i say send to Orb, the app stays open. Why am I getting an error message saying it needed to close, but it doesnt. AND after i say send, it asks if I want to send it again.

I also have gotten it to work after trying CTP1. Very pleased with the iPhone app also. I have added 1,900 + videos shared on a network drive with no problems. Can't wait for the final product!

Can try with the latest CTP2.1. If problem persists, then can send your logs to mac.ctp@orb.com with details about your issue & screenshot etc.
