 Orb Compatibility with Nintendo Wii
Hello,
I've been trying to get Orb working with the Nintendo Wii Web Browser that was released this morning. Audio streaming works fine, but I can not seem to get video streaming working using flash.
The Wii Web Browser has Flash 7 installed, so it should work. Is there a way to make a custom skin/interface for the Wii browser? Currently the links are really tiny, and I have to press the '2' button on the remote to put the Wii's Opera 9 browser into large text mode to see any of the links.
Any tips on getting orb to work better with the Wii would be greatly appreciated.

ok, I got it working. ORB ROCKS!
I can now watch my entire video library on my Wii... Joy!
Since my Wii and my PC are on the same network, does all of this video traffic have to go through the internet in order to play?

Wow, that sounds cool!
When the browser and the Orb PC are on the same network, the stream stays on the local network and doesn't go through the Internet. i.e. you Wii player connects directly to your PC to stream.

No. It will do LAN streaming (straight from your Orb PC to your device).

Could you post some screen shots? Thanks.

I'm definitely having some problems. I'm new to Orb (I specifically downloaded it today for use with the Wii browser). I've tested it on my PC and as far as I can tell it works great (my sound card is dead, so I'm not 100 percent sure on audio, but video and images are perfect). For some reason when I try to open anything on the Wii, I get taken to a white page with code on it. The only thing I've been able to succesfully view are images. Is there anyone that can help me with this? Maybe I'm doing something stupid?

We don't have a Wii in the office (yet ) so I can't say for sure, but according to VinnyC's post the fix seems to be to choose Flash as the stream format.
For this, click on the Settings link at the bottom of the page. Then select Stream. And Flash. Click Save&Exit and try to stream again.
Let us know if that works.

Where is this Flash Streaming setting? Or do I not have it because I'm still using Orb 1?

Yes, I was talking about the 2.0 interface, Flash streaming is only supported in 2.0.
We just deployed a patch on mycast.orb.com for the Wii so that you don't have to go select Flash manually anymore, it will be set by default.
Have fun Orbing on the Wii, and have a great holidays

You can try the AJAX interface like on a PC, it may work since it's Opera 9 based.
For this enter this URL: http://mycast.orb.com/orb/html/index.html?format=pc
To go back to normal if it doesn't work, enter this URL: http://mycast.orb.com/orb/html/index.html?format=large

Hi, I get no picture on my wii when viewing video. I only get the sound. Any ideas why? What version of flash are you using? Remember the wii uses flash 7

Got a chance to try this and it works 1/2 of the time for me. No matter what, I always get the audio, but on some videos it stay stuck on the first frame as the audio continues.
No complaints or anything. In fact, I'm kinda stoked that the Wii can now be used as a wireless media center.

I'm having the same problem, mrbrown. I stumbled upon Orb this morning and was stoked I have a way to watch my videos on my Wii while I'm home for the holidays.
But the same problem occurs. Audio plays no matter what movie I throw at it, but the video only works sometime. What's weird is that after the flash is done loading, a single frame from the video appears and then the audio starts.
Any ideas on why this is happening?
But yes, Orb is fantastic.[/quote]
